ITC to add 5,000 rooms over the next five years - Hindustan Times
October 17, 2012
ITC Limited, the country's second largest hospitality group, has plans to add 5,000 rooms in different cities over the next five years. On the drawing board are a golf resort in Delhi, a new hotel in Kolkata, two in Hyderabad, one in Noida and another one in Colombo, Sri Lanka. ITC is Looking at joint ventures in Hyderbad and Noida, said Nakul Anand, executive dir-ector, ITC Limited, briefing the press in Chennai on Tuesday.
Admitting that the hospitality segment was a victim of the global economic slowdown, and in particular slack demand from US and Europe, Anand hoped that the situation would improve in a year's time.
ITC would adopt a look East policy to secure more business from South east Asia and would be marketing its latest luxury hotel, the Grand Chola, launched here on September 15, as a convention centre meeting global standards.
With world-class facilities and a 30,000 sqft ballroom that makes it amongst the biggest in the world, it can host large conventions, he said. It has already been accepted as a member of the International Convention and Conference Association, he said. An aggressive marketing strategy was in place to bring big conventions to Chennai, Anand added.
