ITC Sonar receives LEED Platinum certification - The Times of India
July 20, 2011
ITC Sonar that had become the only hotel in the world to earn carbon credits over three years ago, has now been awarded the LEED Platinum certification, the highest rating among green buildings. In fact, all the luxury hotel properties under the ITC portfolio have been given the certification of Leadership in Energy & Environment, making it the greenest luxury hotel chain in the world.
Expressing delight, ITC executive director Nakul Anand said the distinction was an endorsement of ITC Hotels' credo of 'Responsible Luxury', an ethos that integrates world class green best practices with contemporary design elements to deliver the best of luxury in the greenest manner.
In addition to the wide spectrum of environment friendly measures that ITC Hotels implement, the ITC group's carbon positive, water positive and solid waste recycling positive status ensures that a guest's stay at any of its luxury hotels contributes to a lower carbon footprint.
Earlier, the ITC Sonar in Kolkata had become the first hotel in the world to earn carbon credits under the UNFCCC Kyoto Protocol's clean development mechanism.
