Plans Open for 2nd edition of the World's Premier 10K Run

The inaugural edition of the Sunfeast World 10K Bangalore was a watershed event in the Garden City and received a tremendous response from Bangaloreans across all age groups last year. It's time now to lace up once again and get ready to herald the second edition of the World's Premier 10K Run, the Sunfeast World 10K Bangalore, 2009 scheduled to be run in the city on Sunday, May 31.
At a gala launch function held at the ITC Windsor, Bengaluru, on Wednesday, March 25, Shri Chitranjan Dar, Divisional Chief Opearting Officer ITC Foods, announced the event and the opening of registrations for the same. Sharing the stage and backing the announcement with the commitment of the Government of Karnataka was Chief Secretary Shri Sudhakar Rao. Bangalore's latest heartthrob, Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone was also present as the 'Event Ambassador', along with representatives of the event partners and various dignitaries and celebrities.

The inaugural year saw some of the world's best long distance runners descend into Bangalore to participate in this prestigious event and this year should be no different. A 10K road race demands a high octane combination of endurance and speed and the Sunfeast World 10K Bangalore, 2009, carrying the tag of the 'World's Premier 10K Run' event, is sure to attract the world's best long distance runners and track & field stars.
Another unique aspect of an international road race, unlike other sports, is the opportunity it provides for running enthusiasts and sports lovers to perform on the same stage. Bangaloreans can now run on the same route and in the footsteps of the world's best runners to experience the magic and soak in the atmosphere that pervades international events of such stature. It also will be a test of fitness and endurance - both physical and emotional. Timing chips will be available to all runners desirous of wearing them, which in turn will ensure they get a certificate that ratifies their timing and is recognised in running circles throughout the world.
Announcing the launch of Sunfeast World 10K Bangalore, Shri Chitranjan Dar, Divisional Chief Operating Officer, ITC Foods, said "We are confident that the Sunfeast World 10k Bangalore will grow into one of the signature events in long distance running in India. Welcoming the 2nd edition of the Sunfeast World 10K Bangalore, Chief Secretary Shri Sudhakar Rao said, ''The Government of Karnataka welcomes this prestigious world event to Bangalore and will ensure that all help and support is provided to stage this race in a manner befitting its stature. It is indeed a matter of great pride for Bangalore to play host to this event that will have the world's leading long distance athletes participating along with thousands of Bangaloreans.''
About 25,000 people are expected to be a part of this momentous event on May 31st, participating in the six events of the day.
The Sunfeast World 10K - Bangalore, an event certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) is being conducted under the aegis of the Athletics Federation of India and Karnataka Athletic Association and is supported by the Government of Karnataka and the Department of Youth Services and Sports. It is being partnered by leading brands and corporates in their fields, critical to the fabric of the Event.
